Access denied to DFSRPRIVATE Server 2008 R2

  Please note, The server in question is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER so you can not log in as local admin.

  Hi Scorpio,

  Thanks for your help but i need to gain access to this folder, I know its location but its saying access is denied.

   

  This is because you need to log in as a local admin to gain access to this folder, You cannot log in as a local admin on a server that is a Domain Controller.

   

  I need a way to get around this without demoteing the server..

  Hi Nick,

  I have DFS folder on DC too. I use Administrator account as the admin account. The Owner of DfsrPrivate folder is SYSTEM, Administrators group has Full Control on Security tab.

  Owner of ConflictAndDeleted folder is Administrators group, it also has Full Control in Security tab. I can access both folders.

  Disabling User Account Control and rebooting the server did the trick for me.

  I was having the same issue.  ACL for the folder should've granted me access.  UAC is off.  So I connected to the admin share of the drive from another server, and then was able to access DfsrPrivate no problem: \\server\c$\windows\sysvol_dfsr\domain\dfsrprivate
