Webio.dll eror

    Întrebare

  • Could this be a malware app., causing this problem:

on starting the computer; error box pops up with this message; "c:\windows\system32.webio.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.  Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support"

Further on when opening Outlook another pop-up happens - this time an error with this message:  "The required file WINHTTP.dll cannot be found in your path  Install Microsoft Office Outlook again."  Outlook seems fine however, all mail downloads without a hitch.  Office repairs were run as well.

    Thank you so very much

  • I'm not sure both errors are related, although they could be.

For a good anti-malware app, I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials because it's lightweight and free. Try a scan and see if it determines anything is wrong.

You might also try the Windows Safety Scanner, an online scan that can find some threats. It's not a full-time protection, but it has the benefit of including a registry scan (and is the only registry scan that I would ever recommend -- 3rd party tools usually cause more harm than good).

As for the Outlook issue: try holding Ctrl while you start Outlook. It will start it in a "Office Safe Mode".  If the error doesn't occur, you can know that the issue is caused by a 3rd party add-in (maybe even malware), which you can then disable from Outlook's options.

Hope this helps, let us know...

    No, no malware.

This file webio.dll is a Windows DLL. This error means that the 32Bit/64Bit versions are mixed (64Bit DLL on a 32Bit windows or the other way around)

Please start the command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights [1] and run sfc [2]:

    sfc.exe /scannow

Is it able to find and repair broken files? If not, replace the DLL with the file from your DVD [3].

    best regards
