    hi all

Is it possible to enable archive on exchange 2010 only for Subfolders on inbox( to be selected by either admin or User - not whole Mailbox). And this archive mailbox, how can defined retention policy (after 2-3 years, either notified to user to delete or automatically delete)

    thank

The archive is "available" to the entire mailbox, but that doesnt mean you have to move items from the inbox to it.

You can certainly disable the default policy and create tags that will allow user to apply them to the folders they deem fit.

    Hello,

The Move to Archive action is available only for DPTs and personal tags. You can't create an RPT with the Move to Archive action. So for inbox, you can create Inbox rules in Outlook or Outlook Web App to automatically move messages to a folder in their archive mailbox.

    Best Regards,

    thanks for the reply.

if i create TAG for inbox with " Delete and Allow Recovery" ( since i can't Archive only Inbox), then edit Action to "move to Archive", this will give me the Required output.

if i want to assing retention period for This Archive Folder, how can i do this .

    Hi,

I dont think retention policies can be applied to an Archive mailbox, after all the point is that users want to store historical data. one thing you cando is apply a quota to the archive mailbox.

you can set a warning levle and a quota level, so although information wont be governed by a retention policy the quota will stop people using too much space on you systems,

Actually, Retention policies apply to the entire mailbox - including the archive:

Archive mailboxes don't have a separate retention policy. The same retention policy is applied to the primary and archive mailbox.
