    Hello

we had exchange 2003 earlier and were using direct booking for resource. so when user was booking resources with other attendee and if resource had coflict he/she will not be able to book the meeting.. now on exchgne 2010 user is able to book the meeting but if resource is in conflict he/she gets email with decline from resource. the issue is sometimes user forgets to check his/her inbox and forgets there is a declien in inbox.  is there any way i can turn on exchage 2003 behaviour where it wil block the whole meeting if resource has a conflict?

my research shows that it is not possbile, but just wanted to see if any other work around

    thans

"The issue is sometimes user forgets to check his/her inbox and forgets there is a declien in inbox" - This is not the issue, This is Human Error :).

What does it mean here "Exchage 2003 behaviour where it wil block the whole meeting if resource has a conflict"

You can try following workaround and check if this work as as per your need.

    Run a command

    Set-Calendarprocessing -Identity "mailbox" -Automateprocessing None

None:   If this parameter is set to None, both the resource booking attendant and the Calendar Attendant are disabled on the mailbox

Enable direct booking from outlook and see if you get the same behavior as expected.

what i meant that when there is a resource included in the meeting on exchange 2003 and user is trying to book it and if resource has conflict then it will tell user right there booking cannot be completed due to conflicte.  now on exchagne 2010 it books the meeting with other attendess and if resource has conflict it sends a decline seperately so sometimes user miss that and they are under that impression meeting has been succesfully booked..  i do want to use calendar agent on ex2010 so i do not want to disable that ..

    Hi eth123,

After you check the option "Enable the Resource Booking Attendant" on resource mailbox, when the conflict occur, users will get decline message.

    Thanks,

    Evan

it is selected.  and it is working the way it suppose to.  The issue is user sometimes misses that email and are under that assumption that meeting has booked with the resource. in previous version exchagen 2003, we were using driect booking. so if there was a coflict with resource calendaring then it would blcok the whole meeting

Direct Booking is disabled by default in Outlook 2010.

I dont think I have an answer for you though. If the user misses the email the declines the meeting, than I am not sure what else you can do really. Sounds more like an user education issue.

If you go back to Direct Booking, you introduce a whole set of problems that the calendaring agent is designed to handle plus you put yourself in bad spot for support and future updates and versions.

i understand that.   my question is not necessary a fix for the issue but is that a expected behaviour from direct booking and calnedar agent stand point?

The acceptance or decline emails? yes. The agent handles the recurring meetings and declines or accepts some or all of them depending on what configuration you have set.

    I agree with Andy.

Maybe you can follow this way to popup a new window for the decline message, I am not sure whether this can help you notify users for the decline message:

    Create rule on Outlook:

Apply this rule after the message arrives

    with Declined in the subject

display Decline message in the New Item Alert window

    Thanks,
