Răspuns My experiences with Service Pack 3

It is only recently that I've begun my experimentation with Microsoft's latest collection of updates for the Windows Xp Professional Service Pack 1 (fresh install) operating-system.

My experience with installation has been pleasant, the msi file did not crash during any process.

Afterwards, I installed Symantec Anti-Virus 10. Here is when my problems began. Symantec Anti-Virus, I'll refer to it by the acronym of SAV 10, installed without a hitch and live update proceeded to grab the new definitions files without issue. But, whenever I right click on the recycle bin, the SAV 10 msi begins to proceed with an installation process and then asks the user for the source files.

I'm confused and do not know much about windows beyond an introduction to the registry and various command line utilities, thus, whenever presented with a GUI related problem, tend to freeze and panic.

Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you for your time!

    Hi Bray,

Can you try updating to SP2 (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx) and have all patches installed and see if you still face the problem. This could be a problem with SAV 10 too. Please try contacting their customer support.

Btw, this forum is for Windows XP SP3 (RC). Smile.

    Thanks,

You should have SP2 and not jumping from SP1 -> SP3.

This is not correct. You can actually install SP3 on SP1 without any issues.

This is a symptom of the application not installing fully and/or not cleaning up properly after installation.
