Is Microsoft paying people to answer these forums and are they therefore loosing their value ?(Please react)
- I have several questions posted on these MS forums.
But sometimes I see some very bad answers from people who don't know what they are talking about.
Worst is that they propose their own (bad) answer as a solution....
( have a look here to see what i mean : http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/biztalkr2adapters/thread/907906ce-68f1-4f4e-8ece-ec6036fac737)
It looks like somebody is paying those people per Solution
Do you have the same experience ? Please let me know in this thread ?
If you cannot trust the answer of a discussion toe be a real answer ( the answer was awarded by the one asking the question) what is the value of marking them as an answer ??

( Maybe he is doing his best and he doesn't know better, but still, he should let me decide if what i got was an answer...)
Hi Patrick
Naturally, I would agree with you here. The issue is, that most people do not bother marking anything as answer once they have their answer. The moderators generally do a great job of picking these things up and helping out.
I think it is great that you take the time to mark as answer, but the moderators cannot keep track of which users do this and which do not.
And yes, it is sad when errors happen, but they are REALLY hard to avoid :-)
I have had answers to my own threads marked as answers where I disagreed. I unmarked them and continued the thread - to me this is not a big deal and I can live with it when it happens.

MSDN forums is a social network and is a peer to peer communication between users. Moderators can be microsoft employees who manage the forums. There is no monetary benefit to the answerers (moderators, users, MVPs) on the forums, except knowledge sharing within the community. You can see the posts for this.http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/biztalkgeneral/thread/c9383e85-1599-48eb-959e-91a1435f9d58

The thread which you are referring to you are arguing about the marked answer with the moderator. Remember any answerer can be wrong including experts you can exchange your ideas or knowledge about the problem but you cannot abuse anyone on the forums. You are seeking FREE support for your problems. Microsoft offers paid support for their products and you can seek guaranteed solutions and answers to your problem if you cannot find solution on the forums.

I honestly do not get paid for any of my forum contributions. Replies on your threads are from people who are just trying to help you.
Thanks,
If this answers your question, please use the "Answer" button to say so | Ben Cline - No, I am the Owner of these Forums and I can tell you honestly that we do not pay anyone to answer questions here. I suppose I get paid to manage the Forums, but as you can probably tell, I'm certainly not qualified to be a BizTalk expert, nor do I have the kind of prowess with BizTalk to answer questions here. That is why you should look for answers from those that are here most often, including the MVPs and other "regulars". I do my best to police the Forums for bad answers or people giving poor information, but I do not have the time to read every post or even close to it. The MSDN Forums are a place for free, peer-to-peer support.
- Ok,
Why are people marking their posts as an answer then ? What is the reason behind that. And Abdul & Ben i know you always do your best, and i always read your posts because they are generaly very good.
But then i have several posts on several fora here, and i see sometimes complete nonsens marked as an answer. I thought mark as an answer was ment for the person starting the tread.
In the past month I had 4 incidents that all have to do with a bad reply on a thread that was marked as an answer.
Obviously something is wrong then.....
And Ben & Abdul, if you read the thread you can see the reply i got (and was marked as an answer) doesn't make any sense. Furthermore it was proposed as an answer by somebody who works for MSFT ( Microsoft ) and was a Modereator. So my guess is.....
MS is moderating the forums and is encouraging their own employees to answer questions. I think this is a very good thing. But then I do guess MS is also rewarding employees for providing 'Answers' to questions post on the forums. That's where things start to go wrong, cause then you get all sorts of replies of people more who are more interested in the reward than in providing a real answer......( see another sample here : http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/biztalkgeneral/thread/c7a2b736-f4c6-41e6-a84f-037c10c9d8f3 )
I can see no other reason for people (other than the one who started the thread) marking a post as 'Answered'...
In my opinion the person who starts a thread is also the ONLY one who should mark an answer as 'The Answer'
Well0549 - Hi Well0549
I am sorry to hear that you have received some adwise you did not think was good enough.
I'd like to note, that people cannot mark their posts as answers. Everyone can PROPOSE a post as answer, but only the moderators and the guy who asked the question can mark it as such.
If people asking the questions were better at marking answers them selves, the moderators wouldn't ahve to do that. The moderators have a fairly large wuantity of threads to go through, and I agree with you, that some times, answers which do not really answer the question get marked as such. This is because the moderators cannot spend an hour for each thread wondering whether the answer covers all aspects of the question asked. They have to make assumptions and make a best-effort for it.
You are free to unmark a marked answer as the answer if you feel like it, btw.
And lastly; People who do not have "MSFT" in their titles get no money whatsoever for answering questions in here. Some are MVPs and have thereby received some form of appreciation from Microsoft, but trust me, if you do the math, it is not for the money that we do this! :-)
So, if you ask a question which gets something wrong marked as the answer, please remember this:
1. We are all doing our best. No one is out to get you.
2. We do not get paid - we are just suckers who like to help
3. You can unmark as the answer
4. You can post and say: Sory, but this doesn't help me because... and then perhaps a better solution can be proposed
5. The moderators are really busy...
Thanks

Blog: http://blog.eliasen.dk - I would classify this situation as a moderator eager to get indicate an answer. Sorry if it seems like you have been brushed aside, that is not our intent. It is ok if you want to unmark as answer - this is your privelege as the thread starter.
I think it is also important to know that when an answer is marked it indicates that the reply is one of the answers. You can mark any or all replies that answer your question as the answer. Some threads ask abstract or open-ended questions and therefore often have multiple indicated answers.
Another important point is that people will often still reply to threads with a marked answer so please do not think that if the thread is marked it could be considered a "dead thread".

Blog: http://blog.eliasen.dk- Ben & Eliasen....
You should absolutely not take this personal, cause with people like you i have absolutely no problem at all, i am glad people like you exist.
But I do have a problem if people start "Injecting nonsens into threads" , (links to virus infected pages and so on, no longer existing products) and next marks them as an answer.
And if i have had several of these on 1 day all done by the same MSFT employee it has me wondering why it's done like this by this employee.
( Maybe he is doing his best and he doesn't know better, but still, he should let me decide if what i got was an answer...)
When I post a question here it's because I am interested in an answer, or need to know the answer, but i am defenitely not interested in people who got it wrong and propose it as an answer giving me all kind of work I did not asked for ( unmark as answer ). If an answer is an answer i will happily hit the 'Mark as answer button' and type a reply to the guy who gave the answer....
And i know that 'Marked as answer' doesn't mean that the thread is dead. I know i can add a 'hey thanks guys, this helped me too message'. I know how forums work.
I don't even mind that this MSFT employee is replying to my post. For sure he should keep doing that, it really annoys me het is proposing it as an answer.....

- I can live with it too......, ( but it's hard with all those virus warnings on your screen )
Well0549 Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread

- One of the reasons we mark questions as Answered is that they are then ranked higher by search engines, so when you are one the Web and looking for an answer, the better answers will come to the top of the search results.
