Windows 7 operating system won't connect to BPOS or Lync 2010 while connected to our domain

I can connect to BPOS and Lync 2010 if I remove the Windows 7 machines from the Domain. this happened a few months back and I was able to fix by removing a Windows update.
Haven't been able to identify the culprit that did it this time.
Anybody know? My Windows 7 users are not able to access email, sharepoint or IM because error: Cannot sign in because the server is temporarily unavailable. I have three new machines and can't even get email configured because can't log into BPOS.
Very frustrating to say the least.

Fran,
It looks like this is a configuration of your local machines/GPO/firewall/etc. I would recommend performing a Process Monitor trace and possibly a Network Monitor trace. You can activate logging in both Outlook and Lync to determine what errors they are getting (recommend this prior to ProcMon/NetMon).
My first impression of possible issues:
- DNS (internal DNS may still be pointing to a previous service while non-joined machines/devices are using external DNS)
- ISP DNS missing routing for Microsoft (this has happened in the past and the easiest way to confirm is to try and access a website owned by Microsoft; I would doubt this is the case since you have made it to TechNet but worth a try if you are currently accessing from a non-domain-joined machine).
- Firewall/Proxy (if you only allow access to certain IP ranges or over certain ports such as blocking port 443 or 587 this could definitely cause problems)
- GPO (this could be preventing access to certain websites/etc if you force sites into Inernet Explorer or routing traffic through a specific Proxy that is blocking these sites).First steps:
- Turn on logging for whichever client is being used (you indicated SharePoint as well ... can you provide the error you are receiving with this?)
- Make sure you have the Sign-in client installed and have configured the applications with it.
- If you are referring to Lync, make sure the settings have the correct internal/external routing configurations (should be the same for both)Let me know what this turns up,

Hi Fran, was this issue also posted on another thread? I think i saw that you had disabled your personal firewall and are now able to connect? Sounds like it is tied to whether you are joined to a domain or not? i know the windows firewall has options for on/off depending on what network you are a member of (Work, Public, Private) and wondering if this configuration was at play?
Anyway you are able to connect now correct?

Yes, Ryan I am able to connect now as long as my router firewall is disabled. Disabling Windows firewall did not help. Makes me think it's the router that might be going bad. Going to replace it Monday..

Fran,
Did replacing the router fix your issue?

Hi Fran, I'm in the same boat. I had to replace my old Linksys router this weekend, too many times it would not route traffic back to my TMG which is publishing my ADFS, Exchange, SharePoint and Lync services, so I understand exactly what you are going through. Tracking down an issue from PC to router, to Internet device (DSL, Cable, etc) to ISP to Online Services....many hops in this path and maddening when it is your device that is SOMETIMES causing intermittent issues, crazy I tell ya :-)
Anyway, thanks for replying back and letting everyone know the result of your testing. Hopefully others will find this helpful in their troubleshooting efforts, thanks for sharing :-)
