System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 has been released!
Just wanted to let you all know that we released SP1 of System Center Configuration Manager 2007 today. The upgrade download should be posted on the System Center Configuration Manager TechCenter site within a few days (though someone just told me it was slated to hit on the 27th (not sure why it would take that long) of this month).
Anyway, look for it sometime soon :-)
For reference, this is a new server and client version, so all need to be upgraded.
And you will need to upgrade to SP1 in order to use the Configuration Manager 2007 R2 features (they require SP1).
SP1 itself includes:
* rollup of hotfixes since RTM
* support for Windows Server 2008 as a site system (including the site server)
* Intel AMT integration
* Asset Intelligence 1.5

Update: the upgrade and evaluation versions have been posted now, so you can now start your upgrades in production :-)

Is it possible to use SCCM 2007 R2 Beta with the SP1 RTM? With RC it was not possible

No, you can no longer use the beta R2 features with SP1. You will need to wait until we have released the RC version of R2. That will happen when it is ready this summer.

well as R2 is due out August, pre SP1 installations must be R1 ? right ? (release 1, release 2 etc)
SP1 is an 'upgrade version' ? implying that you must apply it to an existing installed server ? ie SP1 contains no licensing information
Can one (as with other SPs) actually apply that SP1 code, to the source code of R1 so your isntallation source, is a fully licenced SP1
SP1 slipstreamed media should be available soon if that's what you are asking.

when we met with Brian K and Ken R last month, RC1 of R2 is dueJuly 8/15th RTM end of August
Sorry, but I have no idea what you are asking or implying Nick.
SP1 is an upgrade of RTM.
R2 is in beta, but NOT usable now, as the R2 beta is NOT compatible with SP1 RTM. We will have an R2 update (RC) coming out in early July that will work for SP1 RTM.

SP1 is an upgrade, you install it to an existing, built SCCM server. Fine when you've an existing solution, but not so good when you're about to rollout many many servers.
Can you slipstream the SP1 code onto an existing copy of the RTM ? So you install SCCM 2007 SP1 from one and only ever one CD/DVD/Network share
With SMS 2003, you could run "setup.exe /* \\path to RTM code "
(not sure of the swtich) which installed the SP onto the existing RTM source code, not onto an existing server build.

No, we do not provide a supported method for you to create your own slipstreamed build of SP1 (or any other SP, not even in SMS 2003).
We have released a slipstreamed version of SP1 for our volume license customers however. And if you were to purchase Configuration Manager now, it should be the slipstreamed version.

I wish I knew. We (being the product group) have no influence or control over when that happens. All I can offer is what we have today, which is:
* Upgrade - non slip-streamed
* Eval - slipstreamed
* Volume license site - non-eval and slipstreamed
I've never been able to figure out when anything hits any of our media or portals - it seems to change from release to release :-(

One small other question which is related.
Building a Secondary SS, using local code held on the target machine,(we have several hundred to install at the end of low bandwidth links) involves copying the SMSSETUP dir from the CD/DVD. Now that SP1 isnt slip streamed, What would be the best approach to this??
Copying both the RTM and the SP1 SMSSETUP dirs, run the SS server install from the primary, then either do an 'upgrade' from the primary, or send a package job to install SP1 (and R2 when time is appropriate

The upgrade download version IS able to install secondary sites. It just can't be used to install a new primary site (you need the slipstreamed version for that).
So you should just need the upgrade DVD at the local secondary, or install one over the network from the primary (I want to say it was something like 140MB over the wire).
