"Recommended Specifications"
- Although MS has said that 7 "requires" 1 GHz on the CPU side and 1 GHz RAM, I feel compelled to ask if Microsoft tested lower-end machines.
I'm not criticizing...quite the contrary...I am using 7 Ultimate (as I write this!) on a 667 MHz Celeron with 384 MB of RAM, and a Radeon 9200 video card. (I don't like Aero, so I don't care about a "missing" feature)
Did MS test 7 in such a way? Even with such meager components, it is still faster than an identical XP machine running next to it.

- Hi,
Windows 7 is designed to work well across a broad range of hardware. However, if you want to enjoy the best experience with Windows 7 and all of its new features, the minimum should be under consideration. There is a reason on their side, otherwise, potential issue regarding the system's stability, reliability and the performance will rise somehow in the future.
Here I would also like to share the same amazing stories running win7 on lower-end machines.

- I have in my testing installed Windows 7 on an old Pentium 3 tablet PC with 512MB of RAM. It won't run Aero, but it runs Windows 7 just fine. I don't think the Vista install would even complete on this laptop.
As for comparing XP with Windows 7, generally I find the overall performance better on the same PC type using Windows 7.
My only gripe is that at home, games generally run faster and better on XP than Windows 7 but I am sure this will change as new games come out. - Hi,

- Thank you for the link. Some see it as foolish to attempt to install 7 on a "low-end" machine...but I like to think of it as nothing more than experimentation.
Cheers!
