Cannot Find Wireless Network in Win7 RC
- I'm dual-booting between Vista Ultimate and Win7 RC Build 7100. My PC is connected to a D-Link DIR-655 wireless N router, and that to a cable modem. Two other computers in the house connect wirelessly to the router and then to the Internet. In Vista, I see the other computers and they can see mine; we exchange files over the network and the name of the network is displayed on all three computers.
In Win7, I have Internet Access only; Windows Explorer shows only the name of my computer in Network. I am set up as a Public Network in Network and Sharing Center, which shows this computer, unnamed network and then Internet. I have WPA security set in the router. In Local Area Connection Status, IPv4 Connectivity shows Internet, but IPv6 Connectivity shows "No network access." I'm guessing the latter is my problem, but I don't know how to change it. Any advice will be appreciated.

- File sharing does not work in a public network. Have you tried changing it to a home network? HAve you looked at the sharing options in Network and Sharing Center? Click on "Change advanced sharing settings" in the left pane.
Bill - I've tried setting it up as a Home network, but that puts me into HomeGroup, which I understand only works if all the computers are running Win7. Is that not correct? I have all the sharing items turned "on" in "Change advanced sharing settings." But aside from file sharing, my computer cannot see the others, nor can they see mine in Win7. That is not the case in Vista, which can see the other two running XP, and they can see mine running Vista.
Check out these settings:
Go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network and Sharing Center > Change Advanced Sharing Settings. In the Home or Work profile, make sure you have Network Discovery, File and Printer Sharing and Public Folder Sharing all set to ‘On’ and Password Protected Sharing to ‘Off’ if you‘re not using passwords. Don't use the HomeGroup.
- All of those items have been set to "On" since I installed Win 7 RC. I'm not using passwords, so that is set to "Off." I'm not using HomeGroup, at least I don't think I am. Could it have been activated without my knowing it? Is there a way to check and get out of it if I am in a HomeGroup without a password? Still unable to find the wireless network in Win 7 and the Local Area Connection Status is still showing "IPv6 Connectivity: No network access."
