This is really starting to irritate me.  I have as windows 7 Professional OS.  I need to run a virtual PC.  So I select virtual PC from the menu, create a new virtual PC, but there does not seem to be way to start it.  So after trying to figure this out, I disable this in Windows features.  I then install Virtual PC.  I run the wizard and create a new virtual machine.  I start this machine and eventually get the message Reboot and Select the propert Boot device...  I know that the OS has nto been installed.  I have a MSDN licensed XP install disk.  I put this in my CD drive.  I selct this from the CD menu on form.  I press enter.  It runs a bit, the comes up with the same message.  How do I get this to work?

Why can't I do this using the Windows Virtual PC that comes installed with Windows 7 Professional?

Did you install an operating system?  To start a vm you highlight the vm in the list in the Virtual Machines window and then choose Open from the menu at the top of the window.

Yes, I am aware that I need to install an OS.  That is the problem.  I put the CD in my drive, yet the VM will not start the install.  It jusk keeps displaying the same message.

Have you attached the drive to the VM?  It depends on which version
you're running as to how to do that, but it's one of the settings for
    the VM.

To start a VM in Windows Virtual PC, just double left mouse click on it
    and it'll start.

Select the vm in the Virtual Machines windows and then Settings.  Make sure that the dvd drive containing the installation disk is selected.  Close the Settings and then start the vm.  It should then start and run the dvd.

(Bob, I don't mean to reply to you but I had all sorts of problems with the Reply button in the OP's reply window.)

Have you verified that the CD is bootable from a physical machine and that the CD is actually an OS installation disk and not a service pack update?  Trying to install XP from the SP2 or SP3 disc happens quite a bit.

Yes, it is bootable, and it is an installation disk.

Since you have an MSDN subscription, can you try using the XP ISO instead?

You should check the vm's BIOS for boot order.

After spending hours trying to get this to work, I have decided to to VMWare instead.  It actually does work.
