Sharepoint Server 2010 webservice - HTTP 404 Not Found

    Question

  • I already using sharepoint server 2010 to access workflow.asmx but it got http error 404 not found. I can access the main sites, but not the services. I try other service like listdata.svc and other, it give me http 404 error.

I checked the app. pool for sharepoint web services and already start it to running, but still got same error.

  • Please double check if workflow.asmx exists in the following directory:

    \program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\14\isapi

  • check if the "_vti_bin" virtual directory exist in your web application in IIS and also check if it points to the above listed directory.

  • yes I checked and all is fine. is it something to do with folder permission ?

because when I click basic settings -> test settings, it will display

    • authentication  pass-through authentication (sharepoint-80: network service)
    • authorization  can not verify access to path (C:\program........)

but in my local PC installed foundation 2010 with same condition like above it works fine.

  • I have the same issue. Cant seem to get the service to work.

Also tried installing ADO.Net Service 1.5CTP from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=23113

as advised in the blog : http://www.dotnetmafia.com/blogs/dotnettipoftheday/archive/2010/01/21/introduction-to-querying-lists-with-rest-and-listdata-svc-in-sharepoint-2010.aspx

Does it have anything to do with anonymous access setting on the IIS?

  • I dont know to me sharepoint is strange, sometime it is works fine and sometime it does not because of a thing that we do not know exactly.

I ever try any settings and works and then when I restarted my pc, it does not work anymore.

My local pc - app. pool using network service credential and the website using windows authenticantion and aps.net impersonation enabled only, all is disabled. And that is works.

My server using win 2008 server r2, after I change the app. pool credential to administrator and give ACL permission to the folder and then restart it, that is works.

At the moment I can access the service, I just do not know which part that make me can access the service.

  • Hi,

I'm also facing the same problem with this file. But when I checked this file is not present in the above mentioned directory.

How do I include this file here?

    Thanks,

    Sunil
