I was wondering if it is possible to use a SharePoint Foundation 2013 search farm and publish this one for use in other farms.
As of now with SharePoint 2013 there is just one (FAST like!) search for all SharePoint editions. So we do not need to use expensive licenses to build a dedicated search farm?
Here is the plan: create a dedicated search farm with dedicated servers and redundancy for each search role. I want to use only “free” SharePoint Foundation 2013 licenses for each of the servers. Then publish the search farm to the other SharePoint (Foundation, Standard or Enterprise licensed) farms.
Is there a catch? Something I miss? Because with the 2010 and older versions we always had to by expensive licenses or accept much less search functionality.
thanks for the input.
The big catch is that you cannot create search topologies of more than one server with Foundation. Basically that one server will host all search components and the index.
