"Site template requires feature be activated in site collection"

    Question

  • Hi All,

When I try to create a site using my site template, I am getting this error.
"The site template requires that the feature {2acf2715-f703-4277-9f5d-24d70110b18b} be activated in the site collection.
Correlation ID: {8816cb7c-7ca8-4d6b-af52-fd2633e64829}". I searched and found

      and  http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mcsnoiwb/archive/2010/01/07/features-and-their-guid-s-in-sp2010.aspx

It says I need to activate "Web Analytics" feature but I am not seeing under Site Collection Administration  --> Features.

Question is, What am I missing ?

My goal is I need to copy a site to another location. since new location is in cloud I am trying to create site template if you have any other solution, Please tell me.

    Thanks in Advance

  • When creating your site template, deactivate the Advanced Web Analytics feature, along with any other features not available in your cloud environment.

  • As far as I am aawre the Web Analytics feature is only in SPS 2010.

If so it is off-topic here in a pre-SP 2010 forum.

Please tell us which SP app you are running. If it's SPS 2010 I'll move the thread to the SP 2010 Admin forum otherwise to the pre-SP 2010 Admin forum - this isn't in any case a General question.

  • I guess I am using Standard Edition which has "Web Analytics Feature" but in cloud they are not using. Does anyone know how to eliminate this when I create site template?

    Thanks

  • It's maybe moved up since I looked, but when I did look SharePoint Online (your cloud ?) was still SP 2007 based. If that is still the case then no SP 2010 template will work there.

Otherwise the only "lower" version than Standard Edition would be SPF 2010 - that doesn't have this part. If that is what is being used on the cloud, you could (it's simple enough and doesn't require a machine with a lot of memory) install for yourself a copy of SPF 2010 an virtually any PC you have hanging around (512MB will be slow but will work) - using the Basic installation - and create a suitable template there.

While this will presumably work, it will require you to know which features are not available in the cloud environment. What will probably happen is that you need many times to try to use the site template and every time you will be told of yet another feature you will need to remove. I.e. it will probably take quite a lot of time.

Better in my opinion to create a local copy of the cloud environment and create the template there. (No doubt it will be useful in the future too to have a local copy of the cloud environment)

  • Correct. Which is why you should either refer to the cloud provider's documentation for SharePoint sites or ask the cloud provider to clearly communicate which features are and are not available in their hosted SharePoint environments.
