    Question

  • Hi,

I have written some code in which works perfectly fine on machine, now when I download to another server and try to open the solution, I got the following error:

The project file ‘your-project.csproj’ cannot be opened.

The project type is not supported by this installation.

I did some research and one solution is to replace the guid id in cproj file

    From

     <ProjectTypeGuids>{603c0e0b-db56-11dc-be95-000d561079b0};{349c5851-65df-11da-9384-00065b846f21};{fae04ec0-301f-11d3-bf4b-00c04f79efbc}</ProjectTypeGuids>

    To

    <ProjectTypeGuids>{BB1F664B-9266-4fd6-B973-E1E44974B511};{14822709-B5A1-4724-98CA-57A101D1B079};{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC}</ProjectTypeGuids>

But I wonder if something is not up-to-date on the machine where I got the error message. Will that be VS 2010 or the SP 2010 server? Or some files are missing? Or Service Pack?

Because when I used the suggested guid id, VS 2010 asked me to convert my project!

    Please advice. Thanks in advance.

  • This is a Visual Studio problem, and generally means that the project type you are trying to open is not supported in that Visual Studio Installation. As an example, imagine you installed visual studio without VB.NET, but you tried to open an VB.NET project. That would be the error you would see.

What type of project is it? SharePoint?

  • Hi friend,

Make sure that the features in your visual studio(your machine) are installed on the remote server. if not, you should run the visual studio setup and install features that you need.

    Hope that helps.

  • BB1F664B-9266-4fd6-B973-E1E44974B511 corresponds to the re-sharper plug in, delete that GUI from the csproj or vbproj file, reload project and you'll be good to go
