Problem with Search on SharePoint Server 2013

    Question

  • When I try to execute a search on my site i get the following error message:

Search has encountered a problem that prevents results from being returned. If the issue persists, please contact your administrator.

    Correlation ID: 6ea2059c-48b1-907c-963b-4a14e3dbd58c

Looking up the correlation ID I get the following error messages:

In central admin the search is setup (hopefully properly).  The search index has items in it and the crawls run without any errors.

All services are running on the same server (only one server in the farm).  The only thing i can think of potentially having an impact is that there is an WCF service running on the machine.

    So far I've tried

    • Rebooting the server
    • Creating a new web application
    • Creating New Search Service Apllication
    • Re-associating the Service Application Associations

Has anyone seen this error before or have an idea as to where i could look for more information?

    Thanks,

    Estyn

  • Do you have enough memory on the server?  You need to ensure you have <95% memory utilization.  Also, what is the query you are sending?

  • CPU utilization is fairly low (single digits) and physical memory is hovering around 40%. Performing the search doesn't seem to cause any change in either CPU or memory.

Right now the query is simply the word test sent through the default ui.

  • Anyone have any idea on this?  My next steps is to re-install everything, but I'd rather not do that if avoidable.

  • I am receiving the same error, but I have remove search and went through it in detail and still have not resolved it as of yet. Here is the following error that I am getting which correlates to the same:

Search has encountered a problem that prevents results from being returned. If the issue persists, please contact your administrator.

  • I believe recreating search service application might help resolving this issue.

  • Just did a complete re-install still an issue, the crawl does work, I think there is something with the SSL or certificate... This is drive me batty...

  • can u try accessing the application without FQN and search(u can extend the port and try creating one if required). may be even try crawling once again with both options (with FQN and without) and check. ..

  • I finally got this to work... First change your Search topology as you see in this document, I also removed started over from scratch but the following was ticket.

make sure that you stop your server or pause and than reset the index and go from here

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj862356.aspx

After this make sure that all your search service accounts have access to the DB and that the are registered in central admin-->security-->manage security account

Restart all your SharePoint server and services..

and you should be ready to go..

  • I ran through the steps in the article and didn't get any errors, but after doing a full crawl I still can't seem to get any results I still get the same errors.

I also tried a new site collection with a non fqdn, but it didn't help either.  The crawl is working fine, it seems to be having a problem executing the query.

  • I have the same problem, has anyone managed to solve this?

    Friday, September 27, 2013 1:56 PM
  • We had to do a complete re-install.
    Friday, September 27, 2013 8:13 PM
  • Have a look at this we resolved the issue by re-creating search proxy as there was some issue with it.
