Sharepoint Warmup Scripts

    Question

  • Environment: - SharePoint 2010.
Questions: - Warm up scripts (I am a newbe on this).

When we hit the site the first time,  site open up slow (and sometimes, times out) and when we refresh the page, site is up and running (it happened only when we  access it for the first time)

    What are warm-up jobs?
Do we have any ready Scripts given by Microsoft for SharePoint 2010 (with detailed steps and explanation)?

  • A warm up job is a precompilation activity, it essentially loads pages so they are ready for access after a reboot, restart of web app etc.

Not tried it myself for 2010 but this is probably what you are after

  • I use warmup scripts and set them to go off about 4 to 5 in the morning.  SharePoint is almost always slow in the morning and fast in the afternoon.  This is due to the CACHE built into SharePoint.  The warmup scripts just go out and touch each site and preload the cache for you, so the time is not spent with the end user.  I used these all the time in 2k7 and 2010, they work great.

    Here is a good overview.

  • Hi All,

If you want to use PowerShell to warm up a SharePoint site rather than managed code or server add you can use my script:

    I hope this helps

  • Hi All,

There is a new CodePlex project proposing a WarmUp Solution for SharePoint 2010. I've try it and it work very fine. The project is a wsp package which install a specific job in sharePoint Central Administration. It also allow to define additional URL to wake up. The project can be find at this URL : http://sharepointwarmup.codeplex.com/

    Hope this helps some ...
