  • Hi Harish,

to make it simple, please follow the following steps to configure AAM (alternate access mapping)
    1. On the Alternate Access Mappings page, click Edit Public URLs.

    2. If the mapping collection that you want to modify is not specified, then choose one.
In the Alternate Access Mapping Collection section,
click Change alternate access mapping collection on the Alternate Access Mapping Collection menu.

    3. On the Select an Alternate Access Mapping Collection page, click a mapping collection.

    4. In the Public URLs section, you may add new URLs or edit existing URLs in any of the following text boxes: Default, Intranet, or you can change the Default from  http://abc:555 to http://abctest
    5. Click Save.

Now you’ll have to switch over to your DNS server.

    1. Within the DNS Management Console and Under Forward Lookup Zones:
Add a new Primary Zone with your new domain name.
Add a new Host (A) to the records for http://abctest and point the IP Address to the sharepoint server

  • Hi,

You could extent the web application abc:555 to a new web application with host name abctest following Create or extend Web applications.

Also do not forget to create a corresponding DNS pointer.

P.S.: This is a Admin issue, I moved to admin forum.

Hope the information can be helpful.

  • Hi Ammar

    Thanks for the reply

Domain is already existing  in which There is a entry for host as "abc"

As per my knowledge, We cant have 2 host names for a single IP address.

    How to do this now?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

you can add Host (A) record with a name 'abctest' which is the URL needed for your Site, for the SharePoint IP server

  • I followed these steps to the letter and it did not work for me. I created a new forward zone, and a new host with the IP address pointing to the sharepoint site.

Even flushed my dns and still can't get it to work.

let's say my current site is http://painting

I want to change it to http://test

I changed the access mapping for the appropiate site to http://test then created the new forward zone and host with the name test and the ip address to my sharepoint server.

I can still get to http://painting but not to the new url http://test

    What am I doing wrong?
