MOSS2007 linked Excel-Documents in Powerpoint uploaded to doclib

    Question

  • Hi,

we have an excel document that is linked to a powerpoint document, saved in the same folder on our fileserver. The linking is an UNC-path.

After copying both documents to a document library on our MOSS2007, the linking is broken. If we open powerpoint and updated the linking we got an error message, that the linked file couldn't be found.

In the "edit linked documents" of the powerpoint doc is the correct path to the excel-file in the document library listed, but "not available".

If i update the source to the same path, it works.
We want to copy several linked documents and we can't update every document manually.

Any idea, what we can do?

    regards,
    Marcel

    Hi marceck,

If you have a site with the URL http://MOSS/Sites/Test  and you need to access the document libraries in this site through windows explorer through the UNC path \\moss\sites\Test  from a windows 2003 server , then you need to start the WebClient service on the operating system. This service is by default disabled in Windows 2003. So go to Administrative Tool -> Services to start this service.

    Thanks,

    Jack

    thanks for your reply.
I startet the service WebClient, but nothing changed.

The linking-properties of  the powerpoint-doc looks as followed:

    Hi marceck,

After my search, you can use mapped drives . Here is the link, you can refer to it.

  • Hi Jack,

several users should work with these published documents, so mapped drives doesn't seems so be the solution for us.

To use UNC-Paths are not the problem. If i update the source to the same path (http://) the linking will works, as you can see in the picture (first row is updated manually to the same path, as the other rows).

We have hundred of documents and we can't update every document manually. So is there a way, to make the existing liking workable?

    regards,
    Marcel
