Answers

  • Check the registry

    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\14.0\WSS"

    There will be an entry for "ServerRole" which will tell you the installation type

    Stand Alone - SINGLESERVER

    Farm Stand Alone WFE

    Farm Complete - APPLICATION

  • Here is a Powershell script that displays the value of the SERVERROLE key.

    #################################################################
    ## This Powershell Script displays a registry variable SEVERROLE
    ## which shows which type of SharePoint install was done:
    ##
    ##  Stand Alone   - SINGLESERVER
    ##
    ##  Farm Stand Alone  -  WFE
    ##
    ##  Farm Complete   - APPLICATION
    ##
    #####################################################
    $InstallKey = "HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\14.0\Wss"
    (Get-ItemProperty $InstallKey).ServerRole

  • Improved Powershell Script:

    #################################################################

    ## This Powershell Script displays a registry variable SEVERROLE

    ## which shows which type of SharePoint install was done:

    ##

    ##  Stand Alone - SINGLESERVER

    ##

    ##  Farm Stand Alone -  WFE

    ##

    ##  Farm Complete - APPLICATION

    ##

    #####################################################

    $InstallKey = "HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\14.0\Wss"

    $Install = (Get-ItemProperty $InstallKey).ServerRole

    switch ($install)

    {

        SINGLESERVER

        {

    "Standalone Installation"

        }

        WFE

        {

            "Farm Stand Alone"

        }

        APPLICATION

        {

            "Farm Complete"

        }

        DEFAULT

        {

            "SharePoint not installed"

        }

    }
