Quick Launch Nav Question

    Question

  • Hello,

Is there a way I can implement some sort of nav expand and collapse for sites for example.  So that if a user clicks on the Site menu option that will expand a hidden div below to reveal sites so that the menu is not so large?

    Thank you for your thoughts.

    Sincerely,
    Tim

  • Tim,
you could go to Site Actions > Site Settings > navigation

and from there just add the links you'd like under e.g a heading.

    Heading
        link
        link

    and they will automatically collapse

  • The out of the box navigation uses flyouts instead of expand and collapse. You can also use the TreeView for navigation, but most folks find it too specific for what they are trying to do. Other than that you may have to do something custom... you might be able to get something working with the CSS Friendly Control Adapaters:

  • Hi Daniel,

I noticed that when I followed your instructions via your first reply that the menu items did not automatically collapse.

    Tim,
you could go to Site Actions > Site Settings > navigation

and from there just add the links you'd like under e.g a heading.

    Heading
        link
        link

    and they will automatically collapse

Is there something or some setting that I am missing here?

    thanks,

    Tim

  • Randy and Daniel,

I was wondering if there is a way to use a Custom List to drive navigation for QuickLaunch?  Then I would suppose that you could use the list as a datasource for the custom menu.

In addition, if I go this route, is there a way to have the list dynamically populated as a site is created within a site collection?

    Just thinking out loud.

    Thanks for your comments.

    Sincerely,
    Tim

  • we have therefore developed a custom navigation webpart. where you can also make more hierarchies within a tree (group lists in lists, populate links, webpart pages, websites,...)
    for example a screenshot http://www.sharxx.com/product/PublishingImages/screen_navigation02.jpg
if this is interesting please feel free to contact us for more information -> office@sharxx.com (currently our site is only available at german, but in the next 2 weeks also in english)

    greetings from austria
