SharePoint 2010 how to avoid office 2007 files to open in compatibility mode

    Question

  • Hi Guys,

I have some probleme im using SharePoint 2010 enterprise with Office 2007, and some of my files open in compatibility mode and cause me some problem. First it was the docx files that I coudlnt open correctly from outlook when receiving approval email. I start word automation service and everything is ok now. But now i figured out that when opening xsl file from SharePoint its opens in compatibility mode and when trying to close it by clicking on X on top right of my window the document freezes. I dont have this problem with xslx files.

So any help would be appreciated.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is because XSL files are Excel 97-2003 workbooks and will always open in compatibility mode.

    Hi,

yes I notice that two. So to resume when using SharePoint 2010, you try to open XSL excel files its open in compatibility mode and when you try to close it will just freeze.

To fix it I discover that you need to install this excel fix on your machine  KB973932. And Everything will be ok.

Another Bug I had was that when you start an approval workflow on a doc file (word 97-2000) and you receive an approval email if you try to open the doc file the approval button wont appears in it (in the message bar) as it is when using docx files (Same thing using xsl and xslx files of course). To fix it I discover you need to start word automation service on your farm and do an IIsreset on everything server specially web front end
