  • Hi All,

    phrases that i entered were:

    page 1

    page 2

    page 3

    ....

    page 25

but when i type page in the search box it shows only page 1, page 10, page11, page 12, page 13.

i want to control the number of suggestions it displays, Any help??

  • How you configure the number of suggestions depends on which search box you use.

If you use the standard Search Box Web Part that is for example used on a standard SharePoint 2013 Search Center you can configure the number of suggestions in its properties by editing the Search Box Web Part and from the Proeprties for Search Box pane opening the Query Suggestions sections and changing the value of the 'Number of query suggestions' property.

If you're referring to the search box in the top-right corner of your website though, it's loaded dynamically so it's not that easy to change the number of suggestions. First of all the number of suggestions for that search box can only be changed if you have the Basic or Enhanced Search Features (both are Web Application Features) activated on your Web Application. Next you would have to create a custom Feature that would register a new SearchBox control (similarily to the contents of the c:\program Files\common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\tempLATE\FEATURES\OSearchBasicFeature\SearchArea.xml file) with the QuerySuggestionCount property set to the number of suggestions you want to be displayed (maximum is 30).

  • Thanks Waldek.

I see that you have created many tools to help customise the search in SP 2013. I found your Mavention tool for search suggestions to be of great help for anonymous users setup. I  have a question regarding the pre query search suggestions.

Can you please let me know how many number of click-throughs are required for the link to appear in suggestions box in sp 2013?

  • You mean the standard SharePoint 2013 suggestions or the one I've built?

  • I know the standard sharepoint takes 6 clicks to be considered for indexing in the analytics.

How much does it take in yours? and 1 quick question:

Using standard sharepoint: if the external site is setup with a mix of anonymous and registered users. will suggestions appear for anonymous users? If pre query suggestions appear for registered users then i think it should appear for anonymous too, personalisation for anonymous users may not be possible but atleast suggestions part must appear?

    Thanks.

  • My solution works a little differently: when you search, every time you find a result the query suggestion is stored. So it doesn't matter that much whether you click on a result or not, as long as you find any results. Since all suggestions are stored in a list you can decide yourself which suggestions are displayed.

SharePoint 2013 doesn't display any suggestions to anonymous users, hence my solution.

  • We tried the suggestions on our webapplication in SP 2013 where the search DB was migrated from SP 2010.

we are not getting search suggestions in site collection. But another site collection in the same web application with OTB publishing site is giving suggestions on search.

What do we need to do to get suggestions on the custom search ?
