Moving Document Libraries with PowerShell

  • Is there a guide or some advice on how to effectively move document libraries from one instance of SharePoint to another?  A scripting process through PowerShell?  We have some document libraries that have tens of thousands of documents that need to move to a newly created instance.  What is the best way to make that happen that doesn't involve windows explorer :)

  • you can use powershell cmdlets to export a document library and import it.

    Check these for these two cmdlets in powershell

    Export-SPWeb & Import-SPWeb

    Using Export-SPWeb you can export the required document library to a file, you can then use Import-SPWeb to create the document library from this file to any other site collection,.
