AD security group permissions

    Question

  • Hello,

I have a question about the integration of Active Directory Security groups, and Sharepoint Permissions. We currently have most of out Sharepoint site set up using AD security groups, and i have been tasked with updating and re-orging the groups. That means I will have to be renaming most if not all to a new naming scheme. My question is, when I rename the AD group, will it auto populate the new name in Sharepoint, or will I have to go through and re-add them all?

    Thanks,

  • I believe SharePoint stores the SID instead of the group name, so the permissions won't break. But, you may see the "old group name" for a while after changing the group name in AD.

  • Hello,
I rename a security group, two months ago, and still have the same "old name".

The server was rebooted several times.

What can I do to refresh tha data because I have in "Display Name" tha old name and in "Account Name" the new name.

    Thank You,
    Razvan

  • Did you ever find an answer to this? I'm having exactly the same problem.
    Thanx.

  • Profile Import?

  • No,
Profile import doesn't refresh the "Display Name" filed.

I still wait a "step by step" procedure for that!

  • You need to delete the old group name from the "People and Group" page, and add it again using the permissions page.
