How do I use a SharePoint group as a contact list?

    Question

  • I have created a SharePoint group for a new SharePoint sub-site that I'm creating.  One of their requests is a contact list of all members, since their's is a fairly large and dispersed group.  Is there any way I can create such a contact list automatically from a SharePoint group?  I'd like to avoid inputting all of the data by hand, and it seems like the sort of functionality that should be included...

If the idea is to just use that list as a web part, then i suggest you to look at Site Users web part and add the web part to the landing page, this web part allows you to configure the SharePoint groups that you want it to be shown. The functionality of this web part is to list down all the members and also provide presence information using which you can send email, instant message and also get to see the information about the users from exchange server.

  • Do you have active directory and Exchange?

You can create an email-enabled security group, and just put that group by itself inside of a sharepoint group.  That way, the list will even be in the global address book if you'd like.

Where do they need this contact list to be diplayed, and how do they need to use it?  You can click to look at a sharepoint group in sharepoint, check the boxes next to people's names, and "send an email" to all of them.

  • I don't think they have a clear vision in mind - just so long as it provides easy access to everyone's contact info.  I've added the web-part as suggested by Mr. Joshi below, but I would prefer to have it in a Contact List-style list, so that things like e-mails, phone numbers, and etc. could be viewed in a tabular format.  The ability to add group or list-specific details would be nice as well for things like group-specific roles (project lead on X, in charge of production stage Y, etc.)
