Cannot connect to SQL Server Event id 3355

    Question

  • Hi,

    My environment Windows Server 2008 R2, MS SQL Server 2008 R2

    I am getting following error message on my event log.  Event id 3355.

    Cannot connect to SQL Server. MSSQLServer not found. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
    Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

    Please what is the issue and how to fix it.

    I am reading above article, meanwhile i was surfing on this issue and found some link which says increase database connection timeout

    stsadm -o setproperty -pn database-connection-timeout -pv 180

    looking it.

    Service account is given in web application. now looking at database level.

    what if i increase timeout using above command , will be any impact positive or negative. what you suggest / recommend.

    is there any powershell command to increase timeout instead of using stsadm command.

    how do i check which web application has problem. Error log does not mentioned web application.

    in step mentioned following.

    On the Service Accounts page, in the Credential Management section, in the upper drop-down list click the correct Web application pool for your Web application.
