Migrating to sharepoint 2010 but wants to keep the sharepoint 2007 look and feel

    Question

  • Hi all

    At the moment we have sharepoint 2007 up and running. Back to 3 months ago, we has a problem with this server . An agent came around and fixed the problem, he also created a new VM with sharepoint 2010. He restored all the data from 2007 into 2010 . The problem is that the company wants to keep the 2007 look and feel.

    Facts:

    He didnt upgrade the 2007 , he installed the 2010 and imported data from 2007.

    I ve tried to use the toggle to bring back the 2007 look and feel, but it just works in my home page and all the others sites and pages keeps the 2010 look and feel.

    How can I set the same look and feel in the sharepoint 2010?

    I dont know if it is a good idea or not, but at the moment I m setting up another VM with sharepoint 2007, going to restore the data within this new VM and from there, upgrade it to 2010 and keep old look and feel and all the others customizations. Cuz Im brand new to "sharepoint universe" I dont know if it could be considered efficient.

    Any advice?

    Thank you

  • You can preserve the SharePoint 2007 look and feel in any site/ sitecollection by leveraging the visual upgrade options, this setting is stored in Site level. UIVersion property in following script defines the version, if it is 3 then it is 2007 else if it is 4 then SharePoint 2010 look and feel

    To Revert  a specific site:

    Get-SPSite http://machinename/sites/V3UI | Get-SPWeb "webname" | Foreach{$_.UIVersionConfigurationEnabled=1;$_.UIVersion=3;$_.Update();}

    To revert all sites in a  Site collection

    Get-SPSite http://machinename/sites/V3UI | Foreach{$_. UIVersionConfigurationEnabled=1;$_.UIVersion=3;$_.Update();}

    To revert all sites in a content database

    $db = Get-SPContentDatabase WSS_Content
    $db.Sites | Get-SPWeb -limit all | ForEach-Object {$_.UIversion = 3; $_.UIVersionConfigurationEnabled = $false; $_.update()}

  • HI,

    There are few queries I have from my side -

    1> what do you mean by imported data from 2007. Did he restore the content DB from MOSS 2007 and got it attached to SP2010?

    2> Can you find out from the agent did he go for Visual Upgrade? There is an option of Visual upgrade in SP2010. If we dont opt for Visual upgrade, then we keep the same look and feel of MOSS 2007.

    Regards,
