Sql server 2008 management studio

    Question

  • Can I install Sql server 2008 management studio into Ubuntu operating system? If not then is there any other option or any other way to use sql database to be open or restore into Ubuntu / Linux???

    please kindly reply any one....

  • Hi Jainam,

    You don't have an option to instal Sql server 2008 management studio other than windows supportive operating systems, please refer the following:

    If you want to restore SQL Server database in another RDBMS in linux / Ubuntu OS. You need to look for thrid party tools conversation tools for it... take a look on below:

  • I think try using DTS for transporting data of SQL Server and dump it somewhere else and from then to destination as you said ubuntu

  • Incase if the Linux OS has its own tools that can connect to DB, if they can do export yes you can do it or If any MS has tools to perform this they yes.

    As per documentation no support for installation other that windows but you don't know what geeks can do i think you should read him :How to run SQL Server on Linux.

    Note : Application on other OS can talk to sql server

  • thanks satish for your kindly reply, Act I using that ubuntu system as my server so I cant change it, Must have to install and use sql into that system only.

    Is there any other format in which we can convert our sql database that support into ubuntu??

  • Thanks Rama for your kindly reply, Act My ubntu doesn't have any tools that can open or export sql file. Do you have any idea about other database tool which can be installed into ubuntu. So that I can dump my sql database file into it and export it somewhere else..
