  • How to Reduce the Total SQL Server Consuming Memory

    Hello,

This is a forum for Data Mining, you should post your question to a more related forum, like SQL Database Engine.

SQL Server takes as much memory as it's need for it's work to perform well, that's quite normal for a server application. You can control the maximum memory usage by the min/max memory SQL Server settings, see

    Server Memory Server Configuration Options
Effects of min and max server memory

    Hello,

Follow steps mentioned in this article to see both OS memory issue and  SQL server memory issue.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mvpawardprogram/archive/2012/06/04/using-sys-dm-os-ring-buffers-to-diagnose-memory-issues-in-sql-server.aspx

Below query can also be used to see SQL server mem pressure and VAS pressure

    select physical_memory_in_use_kb/(1024) as SQLMEMORYINUSE_MB,
    virtual_address_space_available_kb/(1024) as VASAVAILABLE_MB
    process_physical_memory_low as is_there_external_pressure,
    process_virtual_memory_low as is_there_vas_pressure
    from sys.dm_os_process_memory
    go

    >>How to reduce total sql server taking memory

for this SQL server by default and virtue takes as much memory as possible (this can be limited by MAX SERVER MEMORY setting) to cache as much data pages as possible to server ll request from mem instead of disk which involves IO(cost) .Instead of looking this I suggest you set proper value for MAX SERVER MEMORY in sp_configure nd tune queries which are taking More memory.

If nothing helps and there is really a mem pressure you would have to increase memory
