how to grant alter permission on SP_TRACE_CREATE

  • i am trying to assign alter permission to a specific SQL login and have scuerd the internet looking for a solution but had no luck ..

    please is there a way to give my sql login alter permission on this stored "extented stored procuderd in master database"

    Msg 4606, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

    Granted or revoked privilege ALTER is not compatible with object.

  • To run trace you need to have the ALTER TRACE permission.

  • I knew , my problem is how to assign ALTER permission to this SP [SP_Create_Trace].. i am trying to create audit trace

    The answer is you don't. You grant ALTER TRACE to the login that is to run sp_trace_create.

  • I'm probably just confused, but sp_create_trace is not a documented stored procedure. Do you mean sp_trace_create? It requires ALTER TRACE permission.
