How to Change sql server registration (sql server 2000) ?

    Question

  • I am trying to set up my machine for replication and have recieved the
    following message

    "SQL Server replication does not support nicknames, such as "." or
    "(local)" as server names.

    Delete the SQL Server registration for this server and register it
    using the actual server name"

    Our server is running live right now.  Do I have to disconnect or stop the sever to do this, or can I just delete the local registration and re-register it with the server name?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

    You don’t have to stop the server to do this, just delete and recreate the registration with the server name. After that, you will be able to add a publication.

    Hope this helps
