SSIS Fast when downloading from server but slow when uploading

    Question

  • Hello,

Using SSIS 2005, I am pulling down about 2 million rows from a SQL Server 2005 to another SQL Server 2005.

When I bring the data down, it takes only a few minutes, it is putting it into a blank table. I then process the data and send it back up. When I send it back to the first SQL Server, it takes almost an hour.

I removed all the keys and indexes from the destination server but I cannot figure out why it takes so long. It is a simple Data Flow Task with just an OLE Source and OLE Destination, there are no transforms in between. I am also using SQL in the Source (without the wildcard) and all five fields are mapped.

Any ideas why this would be so slow?

    Thank you for the help.

  • I found that if my database file size is small (the defaults), then adding a large number of records will cause the database to stop while it increases the size of the file.
