Can I pump a .txt file with no delimiters into a SQL Server Database?

    Question

  • I am brand new to SSIS. And I have my first project to pump in a .txt file with no delimiters into a SQL Server Database so that we can report on it and process it. Does anyone know of a great web site that might be able to help me in this endeavor? I am Googling as you read this...and I'm trying to find out if I can push this .txt file that comes to us from a vendor into a reportable table. The .txt file does not have delimiters but it is fixed formatted in terms of its fields.

Thanks for your review and I am hope ful for a reply and Thanks in advance for your reply as well.

  • Hello,

Yes, you can import files with fixed with columns using SSIS, that's no problem. In the datasource definition remove the delimiter character and in the "columns" section ou have to define the column width for every column.
