SQL Server 2008 R2 Install on Vista

    Question

  • Hi folks,

I am trying to install the 32 bit trial version of sql server 2008 R2 on my PC, which has windows vista premium.

I launch the setup, I choose the install sql server 2008 R2 option, it goes through the first step, then i choose evaluation version and accept the terms, then get the window saying installing rules etc for the setup, hit the next button, nothing happens, I get the main setup window with all the options.

The setup is not going through fully neither i get any error,,, what is the issue here, I have been trying to do this for the last couple of days.

    I have .net 3.5 framework SP1.

    Thank you

    Ramdas

  • Hi Ramesh,

Ran the setp as admin, came to the window install setup support files, once this was done , went back to main setup window.

Should i look in the registry somewhere?  ihad older versions of sql server evaluations which i uninstalled.

    Thank you

  • Hi,

I dont think so. This issue related to windows installer. If we install, we can continue sql setup without any issue. I had faced same issue and resolved after latest windows installer was applied.

  • Hi Ram2007,

This issue might be caused by the corrupt installation file. While the installation file is corrupt, we will encounter many strange issues.

For troubleshooting, I recommend that you try installing SQL Server on another machine with this installation file. If it fails to install SQL server, the installation file might be corrupt, please download SQL Server 2008 R2 from the following link and try again:

If anything is unclear, please let me know.
