ETW Correlation in IIS and SQL Server events

  • For correlating events in tracelogs in our application, I am capturing ETW traces from below listed providers
    MSSQLSERVER Trace                        {FBD367D1-642F-47CF-B79B-9BE48FB34007}
    IIS: WWW Server                          {3A2A4E84-4C21-4981-AE10-3FDA0D9B0F83}

    IIS populates valid 'Correlation ActivityID' in its etl logs.
    e.g. <Correlation ActivityID="{00000000-0000-0000-8603-0080000000f0}" />

    However, SQL Server etl log always have it as
    e.g. <Correlation ActivityID="{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}" />

    My question is -
    How do I achieve correlation of events between IIS and SQL Server, if the 'Correlation ActivityID' is always 0 in SQL Server traces?

    How do I start getting valid 'Correlation ActivityID' in SQL Server etl traces?

  • Hello,

    Can you apply the patch as in Kb article;EN-US;976124 or move to the latest service pack and test it. What version of SQL you are using.

    Thank You
