Failed install of Integration Services during MS SQL Server 2012 install on windows 7

    Question

  • I have installed MS SQL Server 2012 on a windows 7 enterprise 6.1.7601 machine.  During the install I got a warning indicating that the windows firewall may cause a problem during the install.  I carried on with the install and all the features installed successfully except for Integration Services.  I disabled the windows firewall, uninstalled the failed install of Integration services and tried the install of Integration Services again.  Again the install of Integration Services failed.  The Microsoft site that the failure message directs me to for help resolving the issue just states something like "We're sorry there is no more information to help reslolve the issue...".

Can someone tell me what I need to do to successfully install Integration Services?  The log from the failed attempt to reinstall Integration Services is below.  Thanks much for any help, Roscoe

  • I experienced the same issue... and looked in the Event Viewer, finding the following message:

The worker process for application pool 'DefaultAppPool' encountered an error 'Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions' trying to read configuration data from file

'\\?\C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\CONFIG\machine.config', line number '0'.  The data field contains the error code.

Change the permissions in this folder,  uninstall the feature, and reinstall.

    Good luck!

  • I'd take a look in the system eventlog and see if there is additional info about the failure or timeout that is occurring when the service is trying to start.

  • You should not disable the firewall, instead configure it for use with SSIS as outlined in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms137861.aspx

Then attempt to repair the install, or un-install and re-install.

  • Hi Chuck thanks for the quick reply.  I looked in the event viewer windows logs under applications and found the records associated with the failure.  Message was repeated for each "retry" that I tried but the message is the same each time.  The log record reads...

Microsoft SSIS service failed to start.

Error:  Configuration system failed to initialize.

... but off the bat have no idea what that actually means.  Can you offer any insight?  I will post the solution if I can find it myself.

Thanks much in advance for any help, Roscoe

  • Hi Arthur thanks for the quick reply.  I uninstalled MS SQL Server 2012 and tried to reinstall but with the same result.  I tried "repair" instead but it resulted in the same failure.   I then uninstalled MS SQL Server 2012 again and instead installed MS SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1.  I then attempted to upgrade SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012 instead of doing a fresh install but ran into the same failure during the upgrade.  In both the fresh install and the upgrade the error message in the event viewer /windows logs/application that logs the failure reads...

Microsoft SSIS Service failed to start.

Error:  Configuration system failed to initialize.

...but don't know what that actually means.  I will post the solution if I find it myself.  Thanks tonnes in advance if you can offer any more help, Roscoe
