HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

    Question

  • Hi,

I wan't to install Forefront Client Security Server on my Server 2008 R2 . Therefor I need a working SQL 2005 Server with Reporting Services support.
Because I don't know anything about SQL , Reporting Services or IIS configuration, I tried to get it working by http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938245 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934164 .

After many tries with different versions, I tried Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 3 last. The installation left without problems. But if I try to connect to http://localhost/reports$sqlexpress , I get the IIS error HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server ErrorThe requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid .

For me as a beginner this looks according to a right problem. I tried many many things to fix this, but nothing helped...
What can I try to solve this problem? Any idea?

    Thanks a lot,
    Mimm

  • Hi Mimm,

From the error message, we can know you are installing SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services on 64bit Internet Information Server 7.5(IIS7.5). It seems you are installing Reporting Services on 64bit Windows Server 2008.

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services or SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition are available only in 32-bit versions. If we are using either SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services or SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition, we must perform the tasks to install 32-bit Reporting Services on a 64-bit computer. The 32-bit versions of Reporting Services run in the WOW64 subsystem of the operating system.

So, to solve the issue, please perform the tasks described in the following topic:
How to: Install 32-bit Reporting Services on a 64-bit Computer: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143293(SQL.90).aspx

Please feel free to ask, if you have any more questions.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Mimm,

After applying SP3, please make sure everything is green checked from Reporting Services Configuration Manager.

Or please try to reboot the server.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Jin,

I already followed the instructions of this side. After I made these changes, the installer did not report any problems (during the system check at installation beginning).

In the meantime I tried to install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition - 64-bit Extended with SP2. After setup is finished, I can connect to the reporting service by browser (no problems). If I install now SP3 as suggested and try to connect to the reporting sercice, I get a "reporting service isn't responding " respectively "can't connect to the reporting service " error message.

Must I still change or activate something after the update or do I simply leave it at SP2? :-)
