SCUP 2011 in SCCM 2012: custom catalogs

    Question

  • Hi,

I'd like to integrate SCUP in SCCM 2012 and used this guide: http://blog.coretech.dk/wp-content/uploads/The-complete-guide-to-System-Center-Updates-Publisher-2011-V1.01.pdf

Not configured anything yet, but would like to add 3rd party catalogs. Shavlik (VMWare) is one and downloaded trial but it isn't showing in the list.
    Known issue?

    Furhtermore:

-how much does this shavlik cost
-are there (free) catalogs too and how do they compare (better/worse)?

    Thanks for your input!

    J.

  • The Shavlik specific question are best asked to a Shavlik representative.

To my knowledge, no there are no free catalogs outside of the ones offered directly from Adobe. Catalogs are more than just a "list" of updates; they are essentially the hard work of packaging and testing the updates which is usually not easy with third party updates.

  • Ok, thanks I'll do that.!

    2 more question:
-so you are working with it and happy about the result versus working "the old way"? + will it keep being supported?
-I have everything configured (SCUP integrated on SCCM 2012, a labmachine installed with Acrfobat 10.0, want to update to 10.1.6) but now I'm lost, what are the basics: edit, assign, export, publish an update (full, metadata only etc) then what, how is it pushed to the clients for updating acrobat?

  • Got a step closer mysefl now.

Note: followed this guide (SCCM 2012) http://www.shavlik.com/assets/docs/qsg-scupdates.pdf to implement AND updated hotfix WSUS-KB2530678-x64.
    Seems ok, also scup-logfile:

"Updates workspace: publish wizard completed.    Updates Publisher    7/03/2013 16:20:29    1 (0x0001)"

Acrobat updates should appear in SCCM 2012 software updates, right? Well, they don't .... Also not after wsus update (sync software updates).

  • if you are using SCCM 2012 SP1 then you need to add the products to the list of products you want to synchronize.

  • Great input, I'm a step closer now. Updates are within SCCM 2012 sp1 now.
However, when the deploymen of the update is not coming through. I'll make a new question for that.

  • Does anyone know what are Microsoft's SCUP plans for future. It hasn't been updated since 2011 and was wondering if it is being bundled into another product?
