PXE on Windows Server 2008 R2

    Question

  • We are setting up an Windows 2008 R2 as our PXE Server but when we added it to our SCCM and gave it the role it will not install.  I can not find the logs to see why it is not installing.  Any help would be great.

    Thank you,
    Paul

  • Did you make the site server account a local admin on the new server?

Did you install WDS on the new server?

Have you checked the site status in ConfigMgr for errors?

Have you checked the event log on the new server for errors?

  • It looks like none of the components installing.  Don't even see SMSexec running.  What could be stopping it from installing any components?

Smsexec not running for example ...
    Start smsexec and watch smsexec.log

  • Our site server is working fine with our deployment server, It only trying to get the new Windows Server 2008 R2 to install the SCCM components to make it a PXE server.  We had a PXE server on 2003 in the same subnet , but we are moving to Server 2008. It looks like the Site Server is not even trying to push the components to the WS 08 R2.
