SCUP error - access denied

    Question

  • I have set up SCUP 2011 in order to publish software and driver updates through SCCM. After some wranglings with our firewall team, I have got it to connect to the partner catalogs but when I try and import the updates from those, every one of them fails. Below is a copy of the SCUP log file after the attempted import of just the flash updates. The same access denied message happens with all the updates, but with flash there is only 3 updates to get making for a shorter file...

  • I had the same problem on my SCUP/SCCM server. When I ran SCUP with administrative privileges the problems were solved.

  • Not exactly sure what this is and most likely would need to be handled by support.  One thing it might be is a timing issue with when we are writing/reading temp files into the %temp% folder and a real-time Antivirus scanning application is monitoring that folder.  When importing, exporting or publishing updates SCUP writes out temp files, reads them then finally deletes them.  If we are unable to read them as they are locked by another application that might cause this issue.

  • Can you download the catalogs to a location on the local disk and import them? This will tell us wether the error is related to your firewall permissions or SCUP.

  • I can download the CABs from the FTP sites and add the catalogs, but I am getting the same error when trying to import the updates from these catalogs...

  • I just had to run both SCUP AND SCCM as admin to get updates to download from the internet. Is this how it should be? I was having the same error as above. Where do I need to check my permissions?
