Delay in notification

    Question

  • Hi,

I have configure a incident workflow to send e-mail notification when a incident is updated or created. For example if anyone adds a comment to a incident, the user who is "assigned to" will receive a e-mail. I experience that there is a large, around 1 hour, delay, from something is changed in service manager until the e-mail arrives in the mailbox. Dont think it is a Exchange 2007 problem, all other emails from for exampel Ops Mgr is fast.

Is there anywhere in Service Manager I can look to see a SMTP/notification logfile?

    Thanks

  •  If the notification activity failed to send, it will log events from the source “OpsMgr SDK Service” in event log. But in this case, the send might be successful so there would be nothing there. You can still check the eventlog to rule out this.

The other thing you can check is if you have more than 1 smtp servers in the notification channel configuration and what is the “retry interval” value there

  • The delay is unusually long.  The emails should generally be received between 2-5 minutes.  I'll check with engineering/test team to see if there is anything we can do to troubleshoot.

  • Hi Anders,

Do you still have that problem?

  • yes I still see this from time to time. Sometimes it is really quick and sometimes there is no notification or it is delayed. My Exchange 2007 server is the same in all scenarios so I doubt that is the problem. I am using that Exchange for other system center products too without any problems.

  • Hi Anders - Are you seeing any errors in the "Operations Manager" event log?
