LDF file size 5GB, Recovery mode on SQL set to Full, want to change to simple

    Question

  • Hi,

Was looking for some information on what would be the best way to go about changing the SQL recovery mode for SCCM Database from Full to Simple,

at the moment the site backup tasks runs fine and i have backup of MDF and LDF, i'm just a tid bit concerned about the size of the LDF and i check the recovery mode and saw it is configured to "Full" and i know it should be "Simple".

  • I have done this a few times, There will be nothing strange except you will need to back up the db first before changing it to simple mode. I also back it up immediately afterwards too.  Once that is done I force the CM07 back up to occur (start the service) and make sure that the backup complete successfully.

  • Recovery mode is a simple setting in SQL Server done using the SQL Management Studio.

Full Recovery mode for the ConfigMgr DB is useless because ConfigMgr doesn't support any type of point in time recovery or even native SQL recovery anyway.

Thanks Jason, do you expect any thing strange to happen if i was to change it? it's a running deployment for a year or so (that is to say it's not a new deployment), again much appreciated.

    Hey Garth,

Thanks, this sounds more encouraging, will update once it's done.
