P2V offline migration - where to find Vista drivers ?

    Question

  • I try to migrate HP server to VM. VMM R2 needs network driver for eth adapter.

    Warning (13246)

No compatible drivers were identified for the device: HP NC373i Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter #2. The offline physical-to-virtual conversion requires a driver for this device.

    Device Type: network adapter

Device Description: HP NC373i Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter #2

    Device Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard Company

Hardware IDs (listed in order of preference):

    B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_164C14E4&SUBSYS_7038103C&REV_12

Compatible IDs (listed in order of preference):

    B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_164C14E4&SUBSYS_7038103C

    B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_164C14E4

    B06BDRV\L2ND

    Recommended Action

Create a new folder under C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2\Driver Import on the Virtual Machine Manager server and then copy the necessary 32-bit Windows Vista driver package files for this device to the new folder. The driver package files include the driver (.sys) and installation (.inf and .cat) files. Check the device manufacturer's website for the necessary drivers.

    It's a typical HP DL380/360 G5 server.

    I read this faq: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd221390.aspx

Since VMM uses Vista x32 WinPE, I need Vista x32 driver for broadcom eth.

Can anyone explain, which driver is ok for Vista ?

I see only Windows XP/2003/2008/2008R2 drivers on HP site. Driver can be extracted from HP PSP.

I tried 2008 driver, but it was not ok for VMM.

    Is there any workarounds ?

    Thanks

ps. Have you seen a lot of Vista drivers for servers hardware ???

Why don't use Windows 2008 sources as WinPE for servers hardware and Windows 7 sources for WS ?

  • Carmen, where do you see answer ? It seems nobody needs that and test that ;-(

It's really half-done product in the System Center line.

  • I downloaded Win 2008 drivers. It seems it is compatibility with Vista.

I created a migration task. No any errors or warnings about driver.

I start it and see the following error:

    Error (3137)

The driver installation file C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2\Driver Import\bxnd.inf cannot successfully install into the Windows PE image required for the physical-to-virtual conversion.

(The system cannot find the file specified)

    Recommended Action

Remove C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2\Driver Import\bxnd.inf, and then try the operation again.

The driver is located in the Driver Import directory:

    01/18/2010  11:08 AM            12,535 bxnd.cat
    01/15/2010  04:47 PM            95,076 bxnd.inf
    12/17/2009  03:38 PM            67,112 bxnd60x.sys
    04/21/2009  09:28 AM            38,400 bxndcox.dll

Where to see more details ? Why the dirver can't be installed into WinPe ?

How to do it manually ?

I tried Win 2003 x32 driver (bxnd52x.sys), the issue is the same.

ps. it's DC, I can't do online migration.

    Thanks
