  • Hi Shankar,

SCCM should backup your SQL backup as well, eventhough it is on the remote site.

If you configured  destination folder to c:\xyz, then you need to look for SQL backup on the remote SQL server at c:\xyz.

If you are getting any errors, please post smsbkup.log

  • A SQL-only backup doesn't help at all. You have to use the built-in ConfigMgr backup (which automatically backs up the database, too).

  • Permissions are usually the problem with DB backup portion of the backup task: the DB backup is performed by the SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP which should be running as the local SYSTEM account of the SQL server. This means that the computer account for the SQL server requires write permissions (both share and NTFS) on the UNC path you specified for the backup in the maintenance task.

There are other possible issues also so examining the log as suggested by Madan will guide you to the solution.

  • SCCM Backup happens on the SCCM SQL server if it is remote and configured as such !!
