Failed to delete the contents of the backp folder. Error Code = 0x0

    Question

  • My site backup keeps failing. The storage location is at the root of the C:/ drive and I have tried adding full Own/read/write permissions for the machine, my sccm admin, domain admins and even once tried it with everyone having read write access while the backup runs, yet the backup still fails when it tries to delete the contents of the backup folder. If I manually delete the contents of the folder - the backup runs succesfully, then my afterbackup.bat script runs and backs the data to a dated folder at a remote share which in turn gets backed up by mozy nightly.

I was getting this same error when I was saving to a different drive (E:/), the E:/ drive failure is notated in the second log file listing below.

I have set an exclusion in my antivirus (Forefront) to not scan files accessed by CcmExec.exe.. Im out of ideas on things to try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks

    Dan

  • I have set an exclusion in my antivirus (Forefront) to not scan files accessed by CcmExec.exe..

    Win32 Error = 145
ccmexec.exe is either the MP or the ConfigMgr client and they are not involved in the backup process. I am not sure if smsbkup.exe or smsexec.exe is deleting/writing the backup files (but I guess it's smsbkup), so you could give that a try.
Have you granted "full access" for "system"?
BTW: 145 translates to "The directory is not empty".

  • I followed your suggestion and set an exclusion in my Forefront client to not scan files accessed by Smsbkup.exe - Started a backup and it successfully cleaned the backup location and ran my afterbackup.bat. Woohoo! (and yes I had set the system to have full access to the backup locations)

    Thanks,

  • Our company uses SEP and I was running into this issue on two of our site servers.  Adding smsexec.exe to the SEP exclusions list seems to have resolved the problem
