Unable to connect to server from console - SDK Error

    Question

  • Good afternoon:

Just installed SCE2007 on a Win2k3_sp2 virtual machine in a Virtual Server environment and I am unable to connect the console to the server. I am getting the following error "Failed to connect to server 'Server1' The sdk service is either not ru

running or not yet initalized." Need a little help here. Below is more info.

  • Please run Feature configuration Wizard before connecting to SCE Server from Remote UI. Also ensure that there is no firewall blocking the connection to the SCE Server.

  • I am getting the same thing... does anyone have any explanation for this?  Originally the SDK service was not started on the server, so I set it to automatic and then was able to connect.  But when I entered my username and password I received the same error.  When I check the SDK service on the server, it is again stopped.

  • I am running SCOM and have been getting these errors when connecting a Management Server Operator Console in Switzerland to the RMS in the US.

What is the Feature Configuration Wizard you are referring to?

    Thanks.

  • I am also running SCOM 2007 and getting this error message.  I just installed SCOM the other day, all worked beautifully until today when I went to open the console.

    Anyone figure it out?

  • Did you find a solution to this? I am stuck with the same problem and trying to find a solution without having to pay $259.00 to Microsoft for support.

  • Hi,

For questions about System Center Operations Manager 2007, please use the Microsoft public newsgroups for SCOM (microsoft.public.opsmgr.setup) which would be the most relevant newsgroup for your question.

    microsoft.public.opsmgr.setup
    http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.opsmgr.setup

    Hope it helps.

  • Hi,

You need to check whether "OPSMgr Sdk Service" is present and running. After running this service if you still get same error the go to "C:\Program Files\system Center Operations Manager 2007\Tools\" click on StartTrace.bat and after getting it started click on StopTrace.bat. Retry to open SCOM console. Now this should open without error.

    Thanks

  • Hi Shalini,

I did as what you suggested. I still cannot open the SCOM console without the error "Failed to connect to server. SDK service not initialized. please retry.

  • I had the same problem.

I changed the service account "System Center Data Access" AKA "OMSDK" to a domain admin account and it worked...

  • I have installed OpsMgr 2007 R2, but when i opened Operations Console, the same error appears i.e. "Failed to connect to server 'Server1' The sdk service is either not running or not yet initalized." i cannot find OpsMgr sdk services in windows services but i have started System Center Data Services, which gets stopped in every 5 minutes. Please anyone help that what I should do to connect it.

  • Hi aanchaljain18 ,

for reference the OpsMgr sdk service is the same as the System Center Data Access service. It's the same thing.
Have you tried running it under a Domain Admin Account?

  • I had the same issue. I think it is a registry corruption, I ran the repair (insert SCOM CD and choose repair) and restarted, then it worked as it suppose to work.

  • Hi,

I just installed SCOM (2007 R2 CU4) and tried to create management packs.

    - When I click create I received the same error.

    My environment:

    • SCOM-MGT01 (RMS Server)
    • CORE-SQL01 (Shared SQL server hosting SCOM db)
    • SCOM-RPT01 (SQL server hosting SCOM DW db and SCOM/SQL reports)

I reviewed everything - ended up changing the rights of the SDK account on the SQL database --> I upgraded them to db_owner of the SCOM database, restarted the “System Center Data Access” on the RMS server (where I was attempting to run the console locally from to create the mgmt pack.

    All working.

    Cheers.

    -----------------------------------

My internal doco/notes with generalised names :

NOTE: If you receive an error message about the SDK service not being started, login to the SCOM SQL server (CORE-SQL01), launch the SQL mgmt. console, expand databases, select  SCOM_DB->Security->Users->SDK Account->Properties then add permissions to “db_owner”

Restart the “System Center Data Access” service on  RMS server: SCOM-MGT01.

  • Hi all,

I had this same stupid error "the sdk service is either not running or not yet initialized". Regarding my issue, it was simply caused because the name which appears on the "Connect To Server"-"Registered Servers" wasn't up-to-date. So I changed the name by the new one, and my problem was solved.

    Cheers,

  • Hi All,

I resolved this problem in my environment. But some thing different in my sinario.

I am using windows Server 2012 and I was installed SCOM 2012 . Which worked fined for 10 days. after that i thought now i need wireless connection on My machine just to download some MPS so i installed in built wireless drivers. When i reboot my machine after installing Wireless drivers my Console not able to connect SDK service. its really shocking for me that after installing wireless component on my machine SDK Stopped working. So i removed that immediately and after removing that wireless component   restarted my server one more time . And My SCOM Console came back to normal means SDK error resolved after removing the Wireless driver.  So in my case Wireless driver made problem check what changes u have done. and after that u got this error. Hope this is help full.
