copy wim package to DP idle or interval?

    Question

  • hi all the sccm masters, Almost every time when copying package to the DPs, Config Manager will wait for about 10-20 minutes before it tranfers the wim file to the DP. I can see it create the hash for the file right away after you push the 'copy package', but then it just stops there until 10-20 mins later it will start transfering - I can see all this from distmgr.log. Any idea why it's doing it? Any way to fix this issue? Cheers, Xm

  • I don't think this is an issue so there is no need to fix :)

    This is std replication process...

See the flowchart of std distribution process http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb932212.aspx

  • Why is this not an issue? if the package transfer itself only takes 5mins but the pre-process takes 20mins, I think this is definetely an issue.

Also, sometimes it does not do this, sometimes it will start transferring straight away which puzzles me and makes me think there is some sort of interval or period for it to start etc.

    anyone has more idea please?

    Cheers,
    Xm

  • You can't be so definite about timings :) It depends upon lot of factors like server load, some other replication process is running or not, package size, connectivity to DP etc.....

  • Is this an updated WIM or a brand new one in a new package?

Is the DP at a child or secondary site?

  • it's brand new wim package.. and in response to An00p's reply: the server load is very low so should not be an issue at all

  • What about my second question: is the DP at a child or secondary site or is it directly attached to the primary? It makes a huge difference, thus the reason I asked.

  • Oh sorry to have left the 2nd Q. We only have 1 primary site, no child or secondary.

  • What does distmgr.log have to say?

  • distmgr.log does not say anything apart from when it starts the hashing process etc and transfering the wim file, that's where I got the timestamp and know it's taking 10-20 mins.

  • Can you post that relevant section of the log file please?

  • hi Jason,

sorry for the late reply. I haven't done wim package transfer so far, so got no current log for this. But it is as I said, it would just start creating the hash etc, then waited for 10-20mins, then it started transferring, so there is no other specific logs etc.

    Cheers,
    Xm
