SCCM 2007 with SQL Technology

    Pregunta

  • Hi All,

In the product "SCCM 2007 with SQL Technology" bundled, I need some clarifications

    1. Will the media come as separate SCCM and SQL installables so that we have to manually install the SQL first and then the SCCM or is it like Visual studio 2010 bundled with SQL where the triggering of Visual studio installable alone is enough and in the backend the SQL will install along with VS with default settings ?

    2. Can anyone please share the Evaluation software download link for the SCCM 2007 with SQL Technology bundled?

    3. Please confirm the bundled SQL will support WSUS and MDT too.

    Thankyou.

  • 1. No it will not be together. You have to install it seperately.

    2. There's no single download location. You'll need to download seperate SQL and SCCM evals.

    3. Depends on who you ask. Technically I think the answer is no, you are not allowed to run those in the version of SQL that comes with SCCM. Of course I've asked this question several times and I always get different answers.

  • Thanks for the prompt answers John.

But to evaluate this SCCM-SQL bundled package I need to get the actual package. I cannot download SCCM and SQL separately and install. Its obviously gonna work. I need to check if the bundled SQL allows WSUS to make use of the same.

If anyone has tried installing WSUS using the SCCM-SQL Bundled technology please share your experience ? Does it allow or not?

    Thanks in advance

    Jenny

  • 1) See the answer from John

    2) SQL: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/ff459612 ConfigMgr R3: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/bb736730 ConfigMgr SP2: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=4707

    3) As John is saying it's a grey area. I know a lot of companies who uses MDT along with the bundled SQL and got an OK as long as it is only used with ConfigMgr.

  • Thanks for the links kent!

But that was not I was looking for. I heard that the SCCM bundled SQL is not a full version and is highly stripped down compared to the actual SQL 2008 standard. Guess the binaries are not available on web for evaluation.

Hope it works for WSUS and MDT for us too. It would really help if MS could lay an article for this.

Thankyou guys for all your help!

  • The bundled SQL is 2008 Standard edition. Can we upgrade it with Service pack 2 prior to SCCM installation? Kindly help! Thanks in advance.

  • Thankyou Kent! I thought since it comes with the bundle, SCCM is going to search for a particular Build number of SQL which will change after installing SP2. Good to know that it wont be an issue.
