Manual Download of Office Desktop Setup Java Applet
-
26 ตุลาคม 2554 19:44Is there a location/page/site to download the Java applet from (without running it) so that it can be pushed (installed) using remote management software? We have quite a few users/machines to transition and would like to do so without having to physically "touch" every machine. Thanks!

I'm looking for this as well.
We have roughly 500 client machines in different cites, and time zones, and I was hoping I could push this out via GPO, or WSUS.

I've been told that this is not possible at this time.
If you are pushing out an application/updates, you can do so manually for all the patches that would normally be downloaded with the desktop setup. http://community.office365.com/en-us/w/administration/manually-install-office-365-desktop-updates.aspx This works great with SCCM and I would assume you can do the same with WSUS but I'm not sure of its specific limitations since the last time I've supported it was over 4 years ago.

It isn't possible to deploy the Desktop Setup tool via remote management software. However, there is good documentation available that describes what software is installed and the registry changes made available at (http://onlinehelp.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-enterprises/ff637585.aspx).
Using that Article as a guide it is possible to do everything that Desktop Setup does via remote management software.

Hi NonikTech and James, the underlying reason why pushing out the Desktop Setup package (i.e. setup_en.exe) is that there are NO updates, patches, fixes in this application. Think of it as a customized Windows Update client that is polling the machine for SPECIFIC updates for the OS, Browser and Office Applications. So rolling this out would not update any of the client machines. As Dan notes below we have all the updates, patches, fixes noted in the below URL and can be used via GPO .msi with elevated privileges or via WSUS, with all client machines pointing to that internal WSUS for updates. So pulling all these items down into WSUS and allowing the clients to pick them up and self-install is the best option for you guys:
